Vigo van Gemd
I am a 20 year old athlete and coach with a lifetime in competitive sport. It started on the hockey pitch — years of field hockey at national youth level — and then I made the jump to athletics, where I found my event: the 800 metres. Today I compete at national level with a personal best of 1:58.53 while studying Movement Technology and coaching a small number of athletes one on one.
Sport has been my life for as long as I can remember. Field hockey came first — fast, tactical, physical. Playing at national youth level taught me discipline, teamwork and what it takes to perform under pressure. The speed and endurance I built on the pitch turned out to be the perfect foundation for what came next.
When I switched to athletics, the 800 metres felt like home. It is the perfect blend of speed and stamina, and I have been chasing faster times ever since. My personal best of 1:58.53 is just a checkpoint — I am still getting faster.
Studying Movement Technology gives me the scientific backbone to everything I do. Biomechanics, physiology, training theory — I do not just follow programmes, I understand why they work. That is what I bring to every athlete I coach.
